Patrick Smith, painter and printmaker

Based in York, Patrick Smith is an established artist whose practice concentrates on ideas associated with edge and devices in composition and form. Using American abstract expressionism, and British Modernism of the 1950’s as a point of departure, influences can be ascribed to Motherwell, Lanyon, and more recently the sculpture and prints of Eduardo Chillida. Patrick studied painting and printmaking at the Leeds Met. and Utrecht School of the Arts in Holland before returning to York, where, after teaching for many years, he has now set up a rural studio to concentrate on painting full time.
